Million Air Dallas first to add Tesla Model 3 to Courtesy Fleet

The nation’s first fleet of Tesla Model 3 FBO courtesy vehicles arrived at Million Air Dallas (KADS) on April 4, 2023.

The fleet of three cars, provided in partnership with Hertz, are available to Million Air ADS customers for short-term vehicle needs while visiting the FBO.

“Million Air Dallas has always led the way in new, exciting amenities that positively impact the customer experience,” Jeff Zimmerman, vice president of FBO services at Million Air Dallas, said. “The addition of Tesla courtesy cars continues that legacy while supporting our own sustainability goals.”

Hertz offers the largest electric rental fleet in North America with both the Tesla Model Y and Model 3. Million Air Dallas customers also have other make-and-model courtesy vehicle options, including an SUV for larger groups.

Million Air’s decision to return to Hertz was not based solely on the company’s ability to provide electric courtesy vehicles, Zimmerman noted, but also its level of service, vehicle options and expansive network. Metrojet CAMO Supports Outstation Third-party Aircraft Evaluation and Financial Audit

The Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) of Metrojet Limited (www.metrojet.com) has recently supported an aircraft evaluation on a third-party Gulfstream G650 aircraft in Guangzhou and Shanghai, China. The in-depth evaluation was completed in 3 days by a team of G650 licensed CAMO engineers from the Metrojet Hong Kong headquarters. The aircraft evaluation involved airworthiness review, document inspection, aircraft technical evaluation, sales advice, and management consultation.

The Metrojet CAMO team has also conducted an independent audit on another G650 aircraft for a financing company. The licensed and type-trained CAMO engineers performed a physical aircraft inspection and assessed the aircraft warranty and damage history on paper. The work was completed by the same team which streamlined the overall process, reducing the time and cost incurred by the client.

GateOne Moves Into Wyoming With Fourth FBO

GateOne acquired the FBO at Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport (KGCC) in Gillette, Wyoming, effective April 19, 2023. The location is the fourth for the company and its first in the state.

The acquisition came via an RFP process after the airport’s completion of a new, $3.3 million general aviation terminal in 2022. GateOne was chosen over five other applicants for the lease.

“We are thrilled to help move the airport forward in this beautiful facility and honoured to be its inaugural FBO,” Thomas Mathew, CEO of GateOne, said. The 5,500-square-foot, mountain-contemporary terminal features a stacked-stone exterior with natural wood, expansive windows and vaulted ceilings throughout.

The location will offer full FBO amenities, including a crew and passenger lounge, flight planning area, crew rest facility and fully-equipped conference room with seating for 12. GateOne KGCC will also offer aircraft maintenance, de-icing service, tie-downs and 29,772 square feet of hangar space able to accommodate aircraft up to a Gulfstream.

“We plan to offer maintenance services for aircraft from single engines to turboprops and possibly jets,” Mathew said. “We’ll also look at the needs of the local and transient communities, and see if we need to build more hangars to attract both customer segments.”

In addition, Mathew plans on adding a flight school and small charter operation at the location, anticipating the latter will facilitate aerial surveys for the oil and gas industry, and U.S. Department of Wildlife.

Situated in northeast Wyoming five miles northwest of Gillette, GateOne KGCC is surrounded by breath-taking natural areas, including Big Horn National Forest, Thunder Basin Grassland and Devil’s Tower National Monument. Its rural setting offers an easy in-and-out with a long runway and instrument landing system (ILS).

GateOne KGCC will be moved in and open for business July 1. Avfuel Welcomes Sheltair’s Newest FBO to Branded Network

Avfuel Corporation welcomed Sheltair’s new FBO at Georgia’s Gwinnett County Airport (KLZU) to its branded network effective April 2, 2023.
The location, just 33 miles from downtown Atlanta, was awarded in a competitive process based on a $17-million program to enhance and expand the airport.

HKBAC In-situ Expansion Investing to Upgrade
Hong Kong’s Infrastructure as International Aviation Hub

The Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre (HKBAC), Asia’s Premier Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), broke ground today to commence its HK$400 million in-situ expansion. The project is scheduled to complete in tandem with the Three-runway System and will contribute to enhancing Hong Kong’s ability to provide world class business aviation services underlining the city’s international aviation hub status.

The Ground-breaking Ceremony was officiated at by Mr. Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport & Logistics, Guest of Honour, with guests including Mr. Algernon Yau Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, Captain Victor Liu Chi-yung, DirectorGeneral of Civil Aviation as well as Mr. Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) and Mr. Fred Lam Tin-fuk, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK. Representing HKBAC’s shareholders on the occasion were Mr. Raymond Kwok, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited and The Hon. Sir Michael D. In response to rising demand and the changing demand landscape, HKBAC’s expansion plan will proceeded in two parts: the first includes the refurbishment and expansion of the existing Executive Terminal Building (ETB) with an upgrade on the co-located customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ), plus a new all-weather canopy stretching from the ETB to shield and serve both aircraft and passengers. The second part features a new Support Terminal with enlarged facilities to cope with emerging demands from chartered flights and group travel flights, plus additional offices for fellow business aviation stakeholders, both to be launched in 2025.

Mr. Robert Chan, Executive Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited and Project Director of the expansion project said, “it is one of the most exciting projects that needs to cater to customer’s demands emphasising higher efficiency, greater flexibility, and better privacy.

Together with the existing HKBAC facilities, the in-situ expansion shall deliver an area 5 times that of the existing ones and the number of car-parking bays double the existing provision.

The new HKBAC will include designated and exclusive drop off and fast track check-in for ultimate privacy access when required by the customer. The new Terminal Building will include VIP Lounge and Suites for individuals, families and groups, providing world class services. The thoughtfully designed CIQ shall allow fast-track departure and arrival. Pilot and Crew lounges are also enhanced to provide well-equipped spaces for them to work on their flight plan or simply to rest.

The new HKBAC will also be a good place for aviation-related business events and shows. As an iconic feature of the new Terminal Building, “The Canopy” is first-of-it-kind in Asia and commands a span of over 26 meters. It is designed to cover a private jet and to serve and protect its customers from different weather conditions. Various green and smart features including solar panels, EV chargers, and smart building management systems are also provided in the new HKBAC with various green labels.”

The expansion is expected to not only enhance customer service capacity and experience, but also provide the opportunity for digitalisation and continuous innovation to ground HKBAC’s reputation as Asia’s Best FBO known for safety, service and style.

HKBAC has been offering round-the-clock professional aircraft and ground support services for general aviation aircraft, including business jets, diplomatic and emergency flights. The majority flights handled by the HKBAC are business flights. An economic study in recent years found that at least 65 of the top 100 Hong Kong listed companies utilized business aviation.

Aerobility flying scholarships for 2023 launched for disabled people

Aerobility has opened applications for flying scholarships for 2023. Aerobility is a UK Charity which changes lives by providing anyone, with any disability, with the access to the magic and wonder of flight.

The 2023 scholarship application window is now open for Aerobility’s five-hour flying scholarships which give people with disabilities a chance to fly. The window opened on 28 April and will remain open for six weeks until 9 June.

Aerobility scholarships are grants that enable anyone with any disability to start to learn to fly, irrespective of their background. This is one of the ways the charity removes the financial as well as the physical barriers to accessing aviation.

One of Aerobility’s scholars from 2022 was Andy Braybrook, from Grantham, who has been paralysed since a motorcycle accident six years ago.

Andy said: “The scholarship has given me something to study toward and look forward to each week and proven that my fear of not being able to fly the plane was completely unnecessary.
“As soon as I saw the scholarship advertised, I knew that a door was now open to me which would not have been, had I not been disabled and not known about Aerobility.”

Another previous scholar was disabled British Army veteran Dave Evans from Newport, Gwent. Dave said his scholarship experience left him with feelings of “improved self confidence” and an “improvement in mental health.”

Bombardier achieves regulatory approvals for installation of Smart Link Plus system on in-service Challenger and Global aircraft

Bombardier has announced major advancements in its comprehensive *Smart Link Plus connected aircraft system, with several key regulatory approvals. The company has recently achieved essential TC, EASA and FAA approvals for almost its entire fleet of Challenger and Global aircraft.

With these approvals, operators of all in-service Challenger 300, Challenger 350, Challenger 3500, Challenger 605 and Challenger 650, as well as Global 5000, Global 6000, Global Express and Global XRS aircraft will be able to install the innovative Smart Link Plus aircraft health management system on their business jets.

Smart Link Plus is an advanced health monitoring system that collects crucial aircraft data, enabling flight and maintenance crews to quickly prioritize and proactively troubleshoot essential in-flight alerts, increasing an aircraft’s operational efficiency. Aircraft operators can effectively track, troubleshoot and dispatch a technician based on information received from the system, enabling them to make detailed maintenance decisions quickly and efficiently.

“The Smart Link Plus system is fundamentally changing the way Bombardier supports its customers,” said Paul Sislian, Executive Vice President, Aftermarket Services & Strategy, Bombardier. “With Smart Link Plus, customers can make concrete maintenance decisions in real time – significantly enhancing the efficiency of their operations.”

Now, a strong majority of current Global 7500 aircraft customers have enrolled in the Smart Link Plus service, and Bombardier has been gradually expanding the program to offer retrofit options to its in-service fleet of Challenger and Global aircraft. The Smart Link Plus system will also be installed on all new Global 8000 aircraft as a standard feature.

With Smart Link Plus, ground crews can also use the program’s remote parameter display to independently monitor an aircraft while in-flight to assist in finding the root cause of potential issues. While in-flight, the Smart Link Plus service automatically sends ground crews takeoff, landing and in-flight fault notifications together with contextual data, allowing the flight crew to focus on other tasks. Full flight data is automatically transmitted and accessible once the aircraft has landed. Access to full aircraft systems data provides additional information required to troubleshoot more complex faults.

Aircraft data is also displayed in an intuitive, user-friendly Bombardier application (myMaintenance App) and is available anytime, anywhere on any personal electronic device. Additionally, Bombardier’s 24/7 Customer Response Centre (CRC) and dedicated team of experts and specialists can support troubleshooting efforts using the myMaintenance App and mobilize additional support as required.

With the recent growth and comprehensive expansion of Bombardier’s worldwide Service Centre network, the introduction of several exciting new products and services, and the latest developments in the Smart Link Plus system, Bombardier continues to build on its commitment to provide customers with the best service experience in the industry today.

Bombardier is working to finalize all regulatory approvals for operators of Challenger 604 and Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft. Approvals are expected from late 2023 through early 2024.

Gulfstream Launches G400 Experience Tour

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. today announced customers across the United States will get an exclusive look at the all-new Gulfstream G400 interior at the G400 Experience Tour, showcasing the comfort and flexibility of the aircraft’s class-leading cabin. The G400, introduced in October 2021, brings an unrivaled combination of range, speed and innovation to the large-cabin business aviation class.

The aircraft features class-leading field performance and can fly 4,200 nautical miles/7,778 kilometers at its long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85. It also offers efficient environmental performance with reduced fuel consumption, emissions and noise as a result of the combination of Gulfstream’s aerodynamic clean-wing design and advanced Pratt & Whitney PW812GA engines.

In the interior, customers can choose from three floorplans with seating for up to nine, 11 or 12 passengers. The G400 also provides the signature Gulfstream Cabin Experience, with 100% fresh air, low cabin altitude, whisper-quiet noise levels and abundant natural light from 10 Gulfstream panoramic oval windows, along with a plasma ionization air purification system.

The initial G400 aircraft has been delivered to Gulfstream’s Flight Test program and preparations are underway for first flight later this year. The test program will include four flight-test aircraft and one production-test aircraft dedicated to cabin comfort and maturity. Gulfstream anticipates G400 entry into service in 2025.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel available at Inverness Airport

Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) is delighted to offer sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Inverness Airport. The cleaner fuel product is supplied by World Fuel Services as a 35% blend and is available to all flight operators at the airport.

SAF is a synthetic form of jet fuel derived from sustainable sources, which is made up from recycled materials including used fats and oils. SAF is then blended with conventional Jet A1 aviation fuel and can be used in any aircraft or engine certified to operate with regular Jet A1 fuel.

HIAL’s ambition is to become a net zero regional airport group and is committed to a continuous supply of SAF at Inverness Airport, where there is an ongoing demand beyond previous supplies for one-off events or trials.

Although the technology to develop low and zero emission aircraft is progressing at pace, in the short-term, flying will remain Jet A1 fuel based. SAF can act as a bridge between current operations and these new technologies. Offering life cycle carbon reductions of around 70%, SAF plays a key role in the aviation sectors journey towards net zero.

HIAL has already made several steps towards understanding and reducing its carbon emissions and undertakes annual carbon footprint calculations. Initiatives already introduced across the group include solar powered passenger boarding ramps; 100% electric or hybrid Ground Power Units (GPUs).

New optimised de-icing equipment as well as a replacement programme of traditional petrol cars with electric vehicles. We have replaced a number of large fire fighting appliances with smaller equivalents that provide 30% fuel savings and diesel consumption.
